Amayon is a level 250 demon lord and one of the four princes of Sheol. Banished from Sheol by one of his three brothers, he enters the Eighth Floor through the zombified body of the Madre de Aguas and attempts to return home by opening a soul-powered portal. His arrival turns the final crisis in Cuba into a conflict among crawlers, demons, and the goddess Ysalte, his former partner and the mother of his child. Although Amayon initially threatens every soul in the region, the crawlers ultimately need him at full strength: only his portal can carry the Eighth Floor's survivors to safety after the ordinary stairwell system begins to fail.
Amayon's role continues beyond that escape. He claims to possess information about the murder of Geyrun, the son of Emberus, and offers to disclose it if Emberus kills the other three princes of Sheol. The bargain converts Amayon from a temporary floor boss into a participant in the larger conflict surrounding the gods, the demon princes, and the damaged divine family associated with Apito.
Royal status and relationships
Amayon belongs to the ruling family of Sheol. Samantha identifies him as a brother of the eldest prince, who styles himself king even though their mother remains the greater authority. She believes Amayon is the youngest of the four princes, but also admits that she had never met him face-to-face before his appearance in Cuba. Her account nevertheless establishes his reputation: he is associated with destructive fire, is hostile toward Emberus, and was not among the beings Samantha knew while confined in the Nothing.
The identity of Amayon's betrayer is not revealed during the Eighth Floor. The system states only that one of his brothers expelled him from Sheol and left him barely able to cling to another realm. That omission matters because Amayon returns home intending to wage war against the brother responsible. His freedom therefore threatens to extend the Eighth Floor's violence into Sheol and, potentially, the Fifteenth Floor on which Sheol is situated.
Amayon and Ysalte have a child together, but their former relationship is defined by coercion rather than loyalty. The system describes Amayon as having seized control of Ysalte when she attempted to leave him. When Ysalte manifests in Cuba, she reverses that arrangement and takes control of him. She intends to make the demon prince her retainer during the Celestial Ascendency, where his strength would improve her position against rival gods. Amayon's desire to return home and Ysalte's desire to possess him place the crawlers between two dangerous powers, neither of whom is their ally in an ordinary sense.
His encounters with Samantha reveal another limit on the information available about him. Amayon immediately sees through Samantha's outward form and says that he knows who she really is. Samantha evades the subject by asking about his mother, which provokes his anger. The exchange confirms that Amayon recognizes her concealed identity, but it does not reveal that identity or explain how he knows it.
Arrival in Cuba
Amayon enters the realm during the collapse of the Cuban regional storyline on the Eighth Floor. Sister Ines had used her enhanced charm abilities to control the Madre de Aguas, a level 125 city boss in the form of a giant sea serpent. The serpent was bitten by zombie fish, developed the floor's zombism condition, and eventually died and rose again. That transformation made the lesser deity vulnerable. A regional announcement then reports that a major demon has involuntarily slipped into the realm through her, identifying the intruder as Amayon.
His appearance is immediately visible and mechanically significant. A column of flame rises several miles west of Carl's position, and Amayon's scream shakes the ground. The system identifies him as a prince of Sheol, while the Scavenger's Daughter opens her eyes and temporarily converts affected fire magic into Sheol fire. Merely witnessing the royal demon grants Carl and Donut the Holy Hell! achievement and a Platinum To Hell in a Handbasket Box. Later, from across Havana, Carl sees Amayon occupying the Madre de Aguas's serpentine body atop a tall building, surrounded by a vortex of demonic birds and pouring fire into the sky.
Possession of the serpent gives Amayon a foothold but not a secure return route. The regional quest Where the Sidewalk Ends explains that he is severely weakened despite his level and title. Passage back to Sheol requires a tithe of souls proportionate to his power. His first solution is a wide-area portal that will consume the souls in Cuba. Other entities interfere with the casting, but he continues forcing the spell forward while calling Carl to him and struggling against Ysalte's influence.
The quest presents three choices. The crawlers can do nothing, allowing the portal eventually to pull the Cuba region upward; they can free Amayon from the serpent shell, restoring his true form and escalating the crisis into a world quest; or they can attempt to kill him for a Celestial Hell Boon. The third option is effectively unavailable because Amayon is invulnerable on the Eighth Floor. Carl and his allies pursue the second path because a sufficiently strengthened version of Amayon might expand the portal beyond Cuba and give every surviving crawler a route off the floor.
Conflict with Ysalte
The struggle becomes more dangerous when Ysalte enters the realm through the death of Sister Ines. Amayon is forced out of the Madre de Aguas shell and appears at a scale suited to the open air. His true body is quadrupedal and centaur-like, with four feet, a humanoid upper torso, and red skin that churns like lava through black patches. His head resembles a gigantic demonic deer with four steaming horns: two rise into the clouds, while two curve downward like tusks. Standing in the street beside a truncated high-rise, his chest is level with crawlers on the building's thirty-second-floor roof. Even small movements from him fracture the structure.
Freeing his body completes Where the Sidewalk Ends but begins The Missing Piece, a hybrid world quest. The first stage gives the Cuba team ten minutes to break Ysalte's control and make Amayon strong enough to resume his return spell. If he remains under Ysalte's control when the timer expires, both will be transported to the Ascendency, leaving crawlers without keys no further means of escape. If he breaks free, the reach of his portal will depend on how much power the crawlers can supply.
The Eighth Floor's card rules govern the confrontation. Amayon receives a short deck consisting of six totems, while Ysalte uses an enhanced version of Sister Ines's deck. The crawlers must eliminate Amayon's totems so that he can act and communicate freely, yet prevent Ysalte from exhausting her own deck and returning to unrestricted divine power. Amayon rapidly summons creatures including two inferior demons and Naamah, a succubus nest queen. Ysalte actively prevents him from playing his last card, but Donut forces him to discard it. Tran destroys the remaining rock totem, apparently clearing Amayon to cast.
That victory exposes a second obstacle. The same demon-eviction event that permitted Amayon to enter now leaves his true form underpowered, and the nearly depopulated floor no longer contains enough souls to fuel the portal. The quest requires the crawlers to reproduce the same kind of souls that triggered the event. This condition arises from the dungeon AI's earlier decision to classify vast quantities of crab reproductive material as individual mobs; their sudden destruction had overwhelmed the underlying Sheol mechanics and initiated the eviction.
Carl therefore uses Raul the crab to recreate the necessary soul count while Alpha Carl helps with the effort to increase Amayon's power. Donut also targets the prince with Why Are You Hitting Yourself, forcing the enormous demon to strike himself and complicating attempts to communicate with him. The plan's final component depends on Sheol fire. Carl lets his health fall low enough to activate the Eighth-Floor benefit of his Martyr's Path, causing his outdoor footsteps to erupt in flame. Because the Scavenger's Daughter has converted his fire to Sheol fire, running beneath Amayon bathes the prince in power native to his home realm rather than harming him.
The worldwide portal
The plan succeeds with only seconds remaining, but not solely because of Carl's actions. Paz Lo, while present as Ysalte's own totem card, kills the goddess. Her death ends her control of Amayon and stops the countdown with two seconds left. The Scavenger's Daughter's general enhancement begins to fade, though her attention remains fixed on Amayon. With Ysalte gone and the crawlers' power source in place, the system marks the first part of The Missing Piece complete.
Amayon initially holds Carl and Samantha in one hand and demands that Donut end the spell making him hit himself. Donut bargains for their release. Once Carl is able to address him, Amayon recognizes him as a follower of Emberus and identifies Samantha despite her disguise. Around them, lesser demons climb through the collapsing building and fly toward Amayon, hoping either to travel with his portal or to obtain qualifying souls of their own. Amayon nevertheless begins the return spell, and a vast red cloud spreads across the sky.
The second stage of the quest, Falling Up, confirms the result. The newly freed Amayon has drawn power from billions of transient souls and from the Sheol fire used to strengthen him. His already-cast spell expands from its Cuban origin until it encompasses the entire world. A regionally adjusted countdown tells the remaining crawlers when the portal will open above them and pull them toward the next floor. Amayon is expected to ascend through the same portal and return to Sheol. The system states that his purpose upon returning is war against the brother who banished him.
Amayon's portal makes him an unusual antagonist. He arrives as a lethal invader whose original spell would consume Cuba, and his true form remains capable of destroying the crawlers around him. Yet killing him is impossible under the floor's rules, and allowing Ysalte to take him would strand much of the surviving crawler population. Carl's coalition therefore wins not by defeating Amayon but by freeing, supplying, and empowering him until the demon's private escape route becomes a worldwide evacuation mechanism.
The bargain over Geyrun
Amayon's connection to Emberus begins at the moment of his arrival. When Samantha explains who he is, Carl receives an update to Emberus's quest concerning Geyrun's murder. Emberus instructs Carl to use the rare opportunity to question a prince of Sheol who may know something about his son's death. The chaos surrounding Ysalte and the portal prevents Carl from obtaining a complete explanation during the confrontation, but Amayon later makes a concrete offer.
At the opening of the Ninth Floor, Emberus reports that Amayon claims to know what happened to Geyrun. His price is the death of his three brothers. The proposal collides with a peace between gods and demons: Emberus wants the information, but openly killing the princes could start a war that burns the mortal world. He consequently directs Carl toward a formal means of breaching the truce through Issitoq. Later in the Ninth Floor, Emberus says the necessary permission has been secured and that he may kill the other Sheol princes in exchange for Amayon's evidence.
The bargain leaves Amayon's exact knowledge unstated. It also gives him a motive beyond revenge against the single brother who expelled him: the deaths of all three rivals would transform the balance of power within Sheol. His claim ties the princes to the unresolved questions surrounding Geyrun, Apito, and the corruption within the divine family, but it does not establish which individual committed the murder. By the verified events of the Ninth Floor, Amayon remains an active source in that investigation, and the promised exchange has not yet revealed the answer.
