A Parade of Horribles overview

A Parade of Horribles is the eighth Dungeon Crawler Carl novel by Matt Dinniman. It was published May 12, 2026 in print, ebook, and audiobook formats. The author's official Book 8 page confirms the date and available editions. This introduction describes the public premise; later sections and linked chapter pages contain Book 8 spoilers.

Spoiler-safe premise

After the consequences of Faction Wars, Carl and Princess Donut arrive on the tenth floor. The public setup replaces a conventional dungeon hunt with races: reach the destination, avoid finishing last, improve the vehicle, and face a harder track. The apparent simplicity is undercut by increasingly frequent glitches, reduced agency, and warnings about the Eleventh Floor event called A Parade of Horribles.

Place in the series

Book 8 follows Book 7: This Inevitable Ruin and should be read after it. The story inherits the political, personal, and system-level consequences of the ninth-floor conflict, so it is not a safe standalone starting point even when the racing scenario looks self-contained.

Editions and audio

The official release page lists print, ebook, and audiobook editions. Retail covers and bonus material can differ by edition, but those packaging differences do not create a separate story canon. Exact item wording, statistics, and scene details should be checked against the edition being discussed.
