Carl's combat gear converts his body into a close-range weapon without making him a conventional armored fighter. Gloves preserve grip and support hand strikes. Kneepads make an aggressive body movement safer and more damaging. The War Gauntlet gives one arm a powerful equipped option while leaving the rest of his fighting style flexible. Each piece works because Carl already prefers grappling, kicking, punching, and using the environment at contact distance.

This page focuses on worn items that directly support an attack. Explosives and trap work belong under Sapper Gear, while clothing chosen mainly for survival belongs under Carl's Defensive Gear. Some items cross categories. The kneepads protect joints and add offense, but they appear here because their defining use is an attack. Carl's feet have their own equipment path because the AI makes them a recurring reward theme.

The Book 1 set establishes the pattern, while later books show how it combines with spells, potions, crafted devices, and battlefield command.

Encounter note: gear does not choose the target

Carl's equipment rewards aggression, but his best decisions often involve refusing the obvious opponent. He may hold a boss in place while Donut attacks a mechanism, strike an environmental support instead of a body, or use the gauntlet as a threat while negotiating. Combat gear expands what he can do at contact range; it does not reduce every encounter to a fistfight. Strategy entries should identify the actual objective before evaluating whether the loadout succeeded.
