Carl and Princess Donut
Carl is a Coast Guard veteran whose engineering instincts, explosives, and refusal to accept the dungeon's intended rules make him a dangerous crawler and a public symbol. Princess Donut is his partner and co-protagonist: a prize-winning Persian cat transformed into a talking, spellcasting crawler whose charisma and command of the audience are strategic assets. Their partnership is the emotional center of the series.
Mordecai, Mongo, and Katia
Mordecai is a former crawler who becomes guide, trainer, and manager. His knowledge helps the party survive, while his history shows what the crawl takes from people who endure it. Mongo is Donut's dinosaur companion, mount, combat partner, and cherished member of the family. Katia Grim is a shapeshifting crawler whose loyalty and vulnerability pull the party into difficult questions about identity, responsibility, and survival.
