Anaconda is a level 75 Quarter Naga and a lead dancer at the Desperado Club. He is the son of the club's assistant manager Astrid and the Guild of Suffering leader Hamed, and the brother of fellow dancer Damascus Steel. Although Anaconda is initially known chiefly as one of Donut's favorite performers, Astrid's death reveals that his place in the club is bound to a much older family history within the dungeon.
Anaconda and Damascus are not former crawlers. Damascus explicitly says that neither brother ever crawled, while also describing them as two among thousands of people in comparable circumstances. Their precise origin and the terms under which they entered dungeon service remain unexplained. Carl suspects that the family consists of natural people who were assigned new bodies and roles after some form of agreement or coercion, but this is presented as his theory rather than a confirmed account. What is established is that Anaconda's Quarter Naga identity, his employment, and his family relationships coexist despite his parents and brother having entirely different displayed species.
After Astrid is killed, Anaconda rejects a chance to leave with the other Penis Parade dancers. Instead, he accompanies Damascus into the hidden areas of the club to confront Hamed. He does not rejoin his former coworkers during the Ninth Floor's Faction Wars. Donut later sees Damascus inside the club, but a search by their friends finds neither brother. Anaconda's whereabouts and the outcome of the brothers' intended confrontation are therefore unresolved in the Ninth Floor account.
Performer at the Penis Parade
Anaconda works in the Penis Parade, the male revue on the upper level of the Desperado Club. His position is not incidental: Donut identifies him as one of the revue's lead dancers, and Carl's examination later confirms both that status and Anaconda's relatively high level. His public role places him among a deliberately theatrical company whose stage names include Damascus Steel, Dong Quixote, Author Steve Rowland, Gluteus Maxx, Splash Zone, and others.
Donut becomes a regular admirer before Carl meets Anaconda directly. After one visit to the club with Katia, she announces that eight more visits will earn her a free dance from him. The promotion shows that Anaconda is already a featured attraction with a customer-reward arrangement attached to his performances. Carl's concern is how much Donut and Katia are spending, while Donut treats the promised dance as another reason to return.
By the Eighth Floor, Donut's acquaintance with Anaconda extends beyond watching him perform. During an encounter with Paz, Sister Ines, and Anton, Paz repeats a violent threat Donut had once made against Havana Brown cats. Donut protests that she made the remark privately to Anaconda and “Sledgie,” her name for Damascus. She explains that Anaconda had never met an ordinary cat, only cat girls, and that their conversation prompted her boast. The exchange identifies him as someone with whom she talks freely, even though her supposed confidence has become entertainment footage shown to other crawlers.
Donut also assumes that Carl should remember Anaconda and calls him a lead dancer when Carl asks who he is. In a separate conversation about dungeon naming conventions, she lists Anaconda among the performers whose conspicuous names she considers appropriate for strippers. These references establish his place in her recurring social life at the club before he becomes involved in the family conflict surrounding Astrid and Hamed.
Appearance and displayed identity
Carl first examines Anaconda in person while visiting the Penis Parade during the Eighth Floor. Anaconda is a large, shirtless humanoid with dark purple skin, snake-like facial features, and two arms. Carl's interface identifies him as a level 75 Quarter Naga. His eyes are later described as slitted and reptilian. When Carl approaches the end of the bar, Anaconda looks him over appraisingly, but Carl passes him to speak with Damascus instead.
Anaconda's body sharply contrasts with those of his relatives. Damascus appears as an ifrit, Astrid as a nökk, and Hamed as the Night Wyrm when Carl first knows him. Anaconda and Damascus do not resemble each other and do not even display as the same species. Their lack of physical resemblance initially obscures their relationship; it does not disprove it. Damascus directly calls Anaconda his brother, identifies Astrid and Hamed as their parents, and includes both brothers in his explanation of the family.
The novels do not establish Anaconda's original species or say when he received the Quarter Naga body. Carl proposes that members of the family have been stuck in the dungeon for a long time and assigned different in-game races. He compares their possible situation to that of the bopcas and recalls that natural people can sign away rights that would otherwise protect their memories. This reasoning explains the evidence available to him, but Anaconda never confirms it and Damascus is prevented from giving a complete history. The Quarter Naga label is therefore reliable as Anaconda's current dungeon identity, while his pre-dungeon identity remains unknown.
Astrid's death and the family disclosure
Anaconda's role changes after Carl and Katia complete their assassination assignment against Astrid. When Carl returns to the Penis Parade, the music is off and the club is crowded with displaced workers from its other rooms. Anaconda and Damascus are both crying uncontrollably. Splash Zone comforts Anaconda while Dong Quixote attends to Damascus. Katia reports that the brothers began weeping when they learned Astrid was dead, before she understood that Astrid was their mother.
Damascus then reveals the relationship while trying to protect the rest of the dancers from the change in management. He says that Astrid used her authority to place people in the club even though they normally would not belong there. Her death will trigger another remodeling and restructuring, after which a replacement manager is expected to remove the current Penis Parade crew. Damascus fears that the performers will be reassigned to the Meat Shields operation on the Larracos level and may consequently be forced to fight the crawlers on the Ninth Floor.
The dancers retain Meat Shields memberships, and Rosemarie secretly manages the market's upper-floor location from within the club. Damascus asks Carl to use a coupon to hire the whole crew for two floors, allowing them to leave before the restructuring. Anaconda is present during this negotiation, but the plan is designed for the other dancers. Damascus has already decided that he will not go with them.
When Katia asks whether the family members were crawlers, Damascus answers that Astrid and Hamed are his parents but that he and his brother were never crawlers. He adds that he and Anaconda are only two of thousands, then stops because he has received a warning against explaining further. This disclosure rules out the simple description of Anaconda as a former crawler. It also places his personal history within a larger population whose nature and contractual status the crawlers do not yet understand.
Carl later reasons that Astrid deliberately kept her sons near her by obtaining comparatively safe jobs for them in the Penis Parade. He also believes that the brothers and their friends remained technically available through Meat Shields while the club's concealed market location protected them from ordinary hiring. Damascus confirms that Astrid pulled strings and that the dancers should not normally have held their positions, but the fuller account of her arrangement is Carl's reconstruction. Anaconda himself offers no explanation of how long he worked there or what obligations were attached to the job.
Decision to accompany Damascus
Damascus declines the mercenary escape because he intends to avenge Astrid. He blames Hamed for arranging her death and believes his father will obtain her property or compensation when the family eventually leaves the dungeon. Anaconda initially asks his brother what he is doing. Once Damascus states that he is going after their father, however, Anaconda immediately decides to accompany him.
The choice is Anaconda's clearest independent action. He does not debate the danger, ask to join Carl's faction, or allow Damascus to pursue Hamed alone. When Dong Quixote volunteers to come as well, Anaconda refuses without turning toward him and defines the confrontation as family business. Damascus then helps him to his feet, and the brothers walk into a rear cubicle together while the rest of the Penis Parade crew completes its transfer to Carl's barracks.
Anaconda consequently misses the protected departure that Damascus organized for their coworkers. Thirteen male dancers, Doctor Bones, and Bucket Boy are hired, but the brothers are not among them. Donut is delighted by the new arrivals and immediately notices the omission, asking whether Anaconda and “Steelie” might join later. Carl can offer only that they might. Their absence separates Anaconda from the company and from Donut at the moment the Penis Parade workers become part of the crawler faction.
His decision is loyal to Damascus, but the stated target is Hamed rather than Carl or Katia. Damascus says that he does not blame Carl for killing Astrid because Carl did not know the family situation. He instead blames the father who used the Guild of Suffering assignment to ensure her death. Anaconda's agreement to go with his brother follows that explanation. The narrative does not show him learning that Carl and Katia delivered the killing blow, nor does it give him a separate declaration of revenge against them.
Disappearance on the Ninth Floor
Hamed subsequently becomes manager of the Desperado Club on the Ninth Floor. Carl recognizes the new manager's name as the true name of the Night Wyrm and remembers him as Astrid's husband, the brothers' father, and the leader of the Guild of Suffering. At that point Carl still believes Anaconda and Damascus are somewhere within the club hunting him. No direct encounter confirms how close they came to their target or what occurred after they entered the rear cubicle.
During Faction Wars, Donut sees Damascus walk past a doorway inside the club and calls after him, but he disappears from view before they speak. She wonders whether Anaconda is also present and whether the brothers succeeded in killing their father. Carl doubts that they did, especially because Hamed has already assumed control of the club, but he has no explanation for Damascus's behavior or Anaconda's location.
The former Penis Parade workers later conduct their own search. Dong Quixote, Splash Zone, Bucket Boy, and Doctor Bones return from the Desperado Club without finding either brother. The new concierge and Clarabelle also say they have not seen them. Donut remains certain that she saw Damascus, while Anaconda is not sighted at all. The club has reopened with an entirely new set of dancers, and workers from its former rooms are missing as well, making the brothers' absence part of a broader disruption rather than proof of any single fate.
Through the end of the Ninth Floor account, Anaconda is therefore missing. His attempt to confront Hamed is established, but its result is not. There is no confirmed reunion with Astrid's former crew, no shown reconciliation with Hamed, and no direct evidence that Anaconda remains in the Desperado Club. His last on-page appearance is his departure beside Damascus; later references preserve the search for him without resolving it.
