Eileithyia is a level 250 goddess of childbirth and female pain in Dungeon Crawler Carl. She is associated with conception, pregnancy, childbirth, grief after reproductive loss, and the protection of women who have endured that loss. During the Eighth and Ninth Floors of the Earth crawl, she is sponsored by Huanxin Jinx, who enters and directs her divine form as part of the Celestial Ascendancy game. Eileithyia's powers become central to the attempt to save both Katia Grim and Princess Donut from the succession rule created by the Enchanted Crown of the Sepsis Whore.
The goddess is not identical to her sponsor. Huanxin speaks, negotiates, and threatens through Eileithyia while driving her, but Eileithyia retains a distinct personality. This separation becomes explicit on the Ninth Floor when Donut's Laundry Day spell tears Huanxin out of the divine body. The goddess remains present while Huanxin is exposed and killed, and Eileithyia then completes Katia's boon according to Katia's own choice rather than the sponsor's plan.
Divine identity and appearance
The dungeon identifies Eileithyia as the Goddess of Childbirth and Female Pain. Her system description calls her an unusual member of the divine roster because she is considered benevolent and compassionate rather than cruel or glory-seeking. Mothers pray to her while trying to conceive and during childbirth. She is also described as a comforting presence for those unable to bear a child or those touched by stillbirth and similar loss. Her title as one who eases pain therefore applies to grief as well as physical suffering.
Eileithyia is not known as a natural claimant to the celestial throne. The dungeon's description treats that lack of ambition as evidence that she may be better qualified to rule than the more openly power-hungry gods. Sponsorship nevertheless places her in the Celestial Ascendancy, where Huanxin uses the goddess's identity, powers, and relationships to prepare a campaign for the Twelfth Floor.
Carl first sees Eileithyia while Huanxin is visibly driving her without soul armor. The manifested figure is a short Grixist with six eyes, four arms, blue-and-black hair, a long neck, and an enlarged abdomen suggesting pregnancy. She wears a red toga and a laurel wreath. This appearance belongs to Huanxin's physical identity rather than the goddess's own body, although the system labels the combined presence as Eileithyia and lists Huanxin as sponsor.
Eileithyia's independent form appears near the end of the Ninth Floor. She is a large humanoid woman in white-and-gold robes, with flowers in her dark curly hair and an olive complexion. Much of her face looks human, but its lower portion is distinctly alien. She has three fingers on each hand and three toes on each foot. Carl regards her expression as kind, in sharp contrast to the hostility Huanxin expresses while speaking through her.
On both floors, the goddess is invulnerable under the applicable appearance or summoning rules. Her presence also awakens the Scavenger's Daughter and creates a party-wide temporary effect: attacks against female opponents are reduced to one quarter of their normal strength, while female party members receive five times their normal melee power. The paired penalty and benefit reflect Eileithyia's protection of women while also turning that protection into a potentially decisive combat mechanic.
Friendship with Yemaya
Eileithyia's closest established divine relationship is with Yemaya, an older river goddess who once held wider authority over oceans, love, and the creation of life. By the time of the Earth crawl, Yemaya has been forgotten, her temples have fallen, and she has lost her place in the Halls. Eileithyia continues to remember her and longs for her return.
The Eighth Floor's Celestial Thorn Room gives Carl's group an opportunity to restore one of seven damaged shrines. Repairing Yemaya's shrine promises to return her to the Halls, grant special cards to the participating squads, and earn a boon from Eileithyia. Katia secretly urges Carl to choose Yemaya because Huanxin has identified the restoration as the first step toward resolving the crown conflict. Carl, Donut, Bomo, and their temporary allies rebuild the shrine even though the decision exposes Ogun's worshippers, Anton and Paz, to divine punishment.
When the restoration is complete, Yemaya and Eileithyia enter the realm together. The system identifies Yemaya as Eileithyia's retainer. Yemaya greets Eileithyia as the friend who remembered her, while Eileithyia immediately supports Yemaya's complaint that Ogun shed blood in her temple. Their exchange presents the retainer relationship as more than a tactical appointment: Eileithyia's continued loyalty makes Yemaya's return possible, and Yemaya is expected to support Eileithyia if she pursues the celestial throne.
The relationship also has a strategic purpose for Huanxin. Rules for that season allow a sponsored deity to recruit an unsponsored god as a retainer for the Ascendancy. Restoring Yemaya therefore gives Huanxin a second divine figure for the Twelfth Floor contest. Eileithyia's genuine friendship and Huanxin's political objective point toward the same action, but for different reasons. The first is an act of remembrance; the second is the construction of an Ascendancy faction.
The Eighth Floor bargain
After Yemaya's restoration, Eileithyia grants Carl and Donut a floor boon that protects against spiritual possession, increases healing speed, and raises Constitution. She also gives them a quest called Spiders, requiring the killing of five spiders in her name each day until told to stop. The task is deliberately trivial. Its real purpose is to create a private divine communication channel and provide a rules-compliant reason for Eileithyia to award another boon.
Through that channel, Huanxin tells Carl that Odette will offer to become the Princess Posse's Faction Wars adjutant. Huanxin wants Carl to accept and promises to help him secure enough votes to disable team protections on the Ninth Floor. She also promises to solve the Crown of the Sepsis Whore problem that has trapped Donut and Katia in the same royal succession. The offer is paired with threats against Carl's friends and instructions not to tell Donut, Mordecai, Odette, or even Katia the full terms.
The bargain exploits the difference between Eileithyia's reputation and the sponsor speaking in her name. The system describes the goddess as generous and comforting, while Huanxin uses the divine channel to demand secrecy, compel political cooperation, and threaten collective punishment. Carl complies because the crown's rule would otherwise prevent Donut and Katia from both leaving the Ninth Floor alive. The resulting agreement binds the survival plan to Huanxin's feud with Odette and Mordecai as well as to her Ascendancy campaign.
Katia becomes an Eileithyia worshipper after receiving an emergency sponsor box from Princess Formidable. The box contains a scroll of worship, and using it reveals fuller descriptions of the goddess's boons. Huanxin contacts Katia through the new affiliation and directs her to persuade Carl to restore Yemaya. Katia consequently serves as the initial link between the crown crisis and Eileithyia, even though the full arrangement is divided among secrets told separately to Katia and Carl.
The Orchid of Eileithyia's Grace
The Orchid of Eileithyia's Grace is the mechanism through which the goddess can permanently alter Katia's status. The flower is sealed inside a lock box attuned specifically to Katia. Opening it requires her to kill a current or former party member, kill a country or level boss, and complete an assassination for a Guild of Suffering. The requirements make the promised rescue dependent on acts of violence before Eileithyia can grant any boon.
Consuming the orchid renders its user unconscious for one hour, reduces her health to one percent, and prevents healing during that period. Survival leads to one of three permanent boons. Eileithyia normally retains discretion over which boon is granted, but a worshipper receives expanded descriptions and may state a preference. The goddess is not compelled to honor that preference.
The first boon triples base Constitution, makes future Constitution points count threefold, and triples Constitution bonuses. It offers extraordinary durability but does not remove Katia from the active crawl, so it cannot solve the succession conflict with Donut. The enhancement also depends partly on Eileithyia's continued survival and ends prospectively if the recipient passes the Twelfth Floor.
The second boon makes the recipient a celestial attendant and transfers her directly to the Twelfth Floor. She becomes a temporary noncombatant NPC, leaves her parties, and has her crawler progress, inventory, and sponsorships frozen until the Ascendancy games begin. At that point she may leave the dungeon or continue. Huanxin intends Katia to receive this outcome because it would place Katia inside Eileithyia's court and make her available to assist Huanxin's campaign.
The third boon restores the recipient's birth race and makes her pregnant by a chosen father of that same race. Under the Earth crawl's rules, the pregnancy renders her ineligible to continue and sends her to the Kinder Facility on the planet's surface. This option also removes Katia from the succession conflict, but she initially rejects it in favor of the attendant route. She fears being sent to the surface with a child and accepts Huanxin's promise of protection on the Twelfth Floor despite the risks of entering a court filled with sponsored gods.
Katia earns the orchid by the end of the Eighth Floor, but she refuses to consume it immediately because doing so would mean abandoning her squad before Faction Wars. Her delay keeps Huanxin's proposed rescue available while allowing Katia to fight through the Ninth Floor campaign. It also gives Carl, Donut, and their allies time to turn the sponsor's own divine mechanics against her.
Summoning on the Ninth Floor
Near the destruction of the Ninth Floor, Katia consumes the orchid. She immediately falls unconscious at one percent health under a Waiting for the Goddess status. Eileithyia is summoned, but the hour-long ordeal leaves little time before Emberus's threatened destruction of the floor. When Katia wakes, Huanxin appears through Eileithyia and orders her to select a boon so the goddess can carry her away.
The sponsor expects Katia to choose celestial attendance, but the summoning contains a rules exploit. Until Katia makes a selection, Eileithyia cannot act. Donut uses Laundry Day to strip Huanxin out of the goddess's soul armor, leaving Eileithyia motionless and the Grixist sponsor physically exposed. Carl and his allies have prepared a circle that prevents Huanxin from teleporting away. Donut then uses Eileithyia's own female-combat bonus while breaking Huanxin's defenses, and a bolt prepared with Mordecai's family ashes kills the sponsor.
The scene definitively separates goddess from driver. Huanxin lands outside the divine body, while Eileithyia remains standing and resumes awareness only after Katia selects a boon. Huanxin's death does not dismiss the goddess or cancel the orchid. Nor does Eileithyia retaliate for the sponsor's death. Her obligation is to the boon and to the woman who invoked it.
Katia's choice
Freed from Huanxin's immediate control, Katia chooses pregnancy instead of becoming a celestial attendant. Eileithyia recognizes Katia as one of her own because Katia has been “touched by the stillness,” linking the goddess's compassion for reproductive loss to Katia's history. She offers Katia a place with herself and Yemaya and warns that pregnancy in a cruel world will bring its own dangers. The offer is protective rather than coercive, and Eileithyia asks Katia to confirm her preference.
Katia explains that pregnancy will send her away from the dungeon and that the Kinder Facility contains children who are frightened and largely alone. Eileithyia had not previously perceived them, but she senses the facility after Katia points it out and realizes she cannot reach it herself. Donut argues that Katia can go where the goddess cannot and protect those children on her behalf. Eileithyia accepts this reasoning as wise.
The boon first restores Katia to her original human body. This transformation reveals the accumulated injuries that her mass-changing crawler race had concealed, including missing limbs and an ear. Because the father must also be human, Eileithyia rejects Katia's unstated first preference and confirms that Louis remains human despite his altered body. Louis consents, and Eileithyia completes the pregnancy, stating that the child will be a boy.
The system marks Katia Ineligible, and she disappears from the active dungeon. Eileithyia fades immediately afterward. The result resolves the Crown of Sepsis crisis without forcing Katia and Donut to kill one another and without making Katia Huanxin's dependent on the Twelfth Floor. It also completes the contrast between Eileithyia and her sponsor: Huanxin treats Katia as an Ascendancy asset, while Eileithyia listens to Katia's reasons, warns her of the cost, and carries out the choice Katia makes for herself.
Role in the divine system
Eileithyia's appearances demonstrate that a dungeon deity can simultaneously be a character, a game asset, and a vehicle occupied by an outside participant. Her titles, relationships, and temperament belong to the goddess; Huanxin's threats and private political program belong to the sponsor. The divine shell supplies invulnerability, summoning effects, boons, and access to the Ascendancy, but sponsorship does not erase the being inside it.
Her story also links apparently separate systems across two floors. Restoring a forgotten shrine recruits Yemaya as a retainer. A minor spider quest creates a covert channel. A worship scroll exposes the full rules of the orchid. The orchid provides three changes in status, two of which can defeat the crown's forced succession without a death. Finally, the pause created by the boon selection makes it possible to remove the sponsor and allow Eileithyia to act independently.
Unlike deities who primarily function as bosses or sources of punishment, Eileithyia's decisive act is an exercise of care within the dungeon's rules. She cannot dismantle the crawl or enter the Kinder Facility herself, but she can recognize Katia's loss, restore her humanity, and send her to a place where her choice has meaning beyond escape. That limited but consequential agency makes Eileithyia central to Katia's departure and to the survival of both women bound by the Sepsis Crown.
